Ackee and saltfish
Ackee an saltfish is a very old traditional Jamaican dish. I have a very strong connection to this dish because ever since I was 5 years old my grandmother cooked it every Sunday for breakfast. Being an immigrant from Jamaica, food was on thing that reminded her of her native country. Usually paired with banana and fried dumpling, we ate this dish while discussing the morning news. WHen my mother was a child she never had a traditional American breakfast but only had ackee and saltfish after church on Sundays. Now, as a 3rd generation child, I enjoy what feel is the luxury of being able to have this dish and the traditional American dishes at the breakfast table.
