In Ivory Coast and Liberia a lot of things are important. In the Islamic culture hijabs are very important in our lives. My family and I choose when we want to wear a hijab which is completely fine even though some people choose to wear it everyday. 
Hijabs are important to my family and I. It helps us represent our religion, especially on Eid, a muslim holiday. Almost every month I ask my mom to buy me a hijab, she always gets so annoyed. Hijabs are important to me because my great grandmother passed away twenty years ago before my grandpa did too. 
It was passed on to him because it was the only memory That he had of his mother which was passed onto my grandfather who passed it to my mother. My mother explained to me the backstory of the plain black hijab that was later passed down to me. The thing that made the hijab special was that my great grandmother received it from the hospital she worked at when she was younger. She grew a bond with the person that gave it to her, Aisha. 
Aisha was a young cancer patient who always wore that same hijab which she gave to my great grandmother because she treated her with so much love and care due to her poor health. We always celebrate the hijab by celebrating Aisha’s birthday. Now I wear the hijab while knowing the whole story and it will always be cherished in our family.  Hijabs are a part of my identity that I choose torepresent. I personally think I look better in a hijab and I’d wear Hijabs are important to me because they help meexpress who I am. I’ll never stop wearing them.
