This coin is a 50 year commemorative of John F. Kennedy's assassination in 1964. I got this coin in 2014 when I went with my family to Philadelphia. One place we went to was the US mint there, which is the biggest one in the country. We saw the creation of coins, from coils of copper and nickel, blanks, and the ornate finishes on top. At the end of this journey, (unfortunately no free samples) we approached the gift shop. On one rack I saw the half dollar commemorative coin. I had never seen a half dollar before or had one. I asked my parents if we could get one and they obliged. After this trip, I started to collect pennies, and the half dollar opened up a new world of coins, and stories of money, and how you could get popcorn, a beverage, and a movie for 25 cents back in the '30s. The half dollar gave me a piece of history, and remembrance of a time, and a day, that will forever be remembered.
