1953 Betty Crocker Cookbook
My artifact is my grandma’s Betty Crocker cookbook from 1953. My greatest memories with my grandma revolve around cooking. She didn’t have the biggest kitchen, but she filled it with family, food & fun every time I would visit her. Baking chocolate chip cookies where we would have a “test” cookie to make sure it was perfect, who has patience for that?! Or a big pot of goulash to feed the whole family. In this particular cookbook, the pages for homemade noodles is sticky and worn, or well-used. For every holiday my grandma would make noodles from scratch and cook them as the gravy for the mashed potatoes…heaven! My grandma passed away 14 years ago, but her memory lives through my children meeting with my mom and making the noodles before Thanksgiving and Christmas. I proudly display the cookbook in my kitchen next to a picture of my grandma and I at my wedding for all to see when they visit my kitchen.
