Most of my family is from Puerto Rico.  My grandmother and my grandfather were born and raised in Puerto Rico. My grandma moved to Brooklyn when she was fairly young however my grandpa had more time to grow up in Puerto Rico.  I really love my grandparents for exposing me to the Puerto Rican lifestyle when my parents didn't. Every other year my grandparents go back to Puerto Rico for vacation or to visit family.  In 2011 when I was about 6 years old they went to a little shop in Boricua that sold bracelets with name engravings.  They asked the person working the shop to engrave my name into a little bracelet for my size at the time.  The engraver then took a pink string and a piece of wood and engraved my name into it.  When my grandma and grandpa came back to New York, they gave me my bracelet and I was so happy.  Nine years have passed and I still have my little lucky bracelet.  It has become a tradition for my grandparents to go to Puerto Rico and bring me back a little keepsake each time.  This tradition helps ground myself to where I came from.  When I get the chance to go to Puerto Rico, I hope that I can get my grandparents a bracelet engraved with their names as a thank you for all that they have done for me in the past.
