Wooden Cross Necklace
A wooden cross necklace is the greatest treasure to a young woman who immigrated to the United States from Honduras in early 2018. I have been fortunate to have her friendship since that time. She received the necklace in her home country of Honduras four years ago on a religious retreat. She shared that a close childhood friend gave it to her as a gift and that a priest had blessed it with a silent prayer with the sign of the cross. The necklace is common in Honduras and is easily found in local shops. I asked her how she would feel if she ever lost it and she responded "I would feel very bad because I wear it every day. It's a part of me". It is a daily reminder of her deep faith in God.
