Wok
This big round shiny metal bowl is a treasured family relic. . For those who don't know, it is a wok, a traditional cast iron bowl used for cooking all kinds of food over a flame. The more it is used, the more flavor it builds and adds to the food it cooks, and its cooked over 10,000 meals!. Used for all kinds of occasions, from backyard cookouts to formal family gatherings, the wok has been a symbol of prosperity and unity for our family. This one dates back over 50 years, even before my family immigrated to the United States. It has been around and used for 3 generations, and hopefully will still be around for many more meals to come. When my family first came to the United States, we didnt know the language, the culture, or the land, and we had a very difficult time adjusting to our new home, sometimes even struggling to do basic tasks like buying food from a grocery store or getting an oil change. But one thing that never changed was our wok. It prepared the same meals with the taste and familiarity of our home, despite that being over 2,000 miles away. This trusty metal bowl helped us get through hard times and I hope to be able to keep the tradition alive and share it's comfort and delicacies for many years to come...
