Where I'm From

I am from a big mountain in China
I was born in an old stone hut
I am from a poor, mountainous, small village 
and eat sweet potatoes and cornmeal every day 
I am from a small mountain village 
full of old persimmon trees 
Whose biggest persimmon tree and stone millstones 
I am from distant mountains 
and in the great forest
I am from Liu Family and Guo Family
I am from a family that loves working 
and family that does kind things 
and from a family drinking mountain water
I am from a family like the tradition of thrift
I am from a family that enjoys hard work
I am from a family whose ancestors 
are the Liu and Guo family I am from our ancestors 
have made a living 
by growing sweet potatoes and corn 
for generations 
and later, 
the younger generation walked out of the mountains, 
moved into the city
I am from those moments 
and began to live in a world of traffic lights
Later, I came to the U.S
