Virgen de Guadalupe
My object is a framed picture of the Virgin Mary also known in Spanish as the Virgen de Guadalupe. These images have been with us since 1531.Juan Diego was wondering of the hill of Tepeyac, he saw the Virgin Mary right before his eyes. He went back to his village and told his people of what had happened. He gathered roses and returned to this hill. He lay down the roses. She appeared before the people and him. The image that they saw that day will never be forgotten. When my mother came to America, she brought the image with her. She prayed, never giving up on her children and their future. Her brother has gave to her before she left Mexico. My uncle is a priest in a city in Mexico called Guerrero. She told me that he blessed it and gave a prayer to the framed picture. Why do we migrate to a new place, perhaps for a better life? New York City perhaps the best place to begin a new life. What we bring to the American shows what other people can learn. New York City is perhaps the most diverse place in the world. We now practice our religious beliefs in America. People always wonder about our religious beliefs, we teach that there is hope in this life. We pray for others that their life in America will be a great life and that their culture will bring us new traditions in the American culture.
