Vic Firth Drumsticks
My item is my drumsticks. My drumsticks mean a lot to me because they are an essential part of my identity. I’ve had my drumsticks since 6th grade. The wood color is starting to fade. They have many marks and torn tape on the ends, and the ink is smearing. During my 8th-grade year, our school band got new songs. In one of our songs, I played the drum set, something I had never done in a band before. It was the start of me expanding my horizons and trying new things I had never done before. I wonder why the band teacher chose me to play the drum set instead of someone else? What would my life look like if that didn’t happen? Would I still have the same ambition I do now? Another pivotal moment for me was in 6th grade. I wasn’t in band class, but one day. I decided to show up. The teacher asked what I wanted to play. After a bit of contemplating, I chose to play the drums. I had to buy drumsticks for the class. No matter how hard I hit them on the drum, they never break. Those drumsticks have been with me for my entire music career. My drumsticks represent more than just someone who plays drums; they symbolize how one impulsive decision can change your entire life, for better or worse.
