This is one of the very popular necklaces made of gold. It looks like a pendant assembled with beads of multiple colours, specially red, green and yellow.


It is an important ornament for a Nepali women. While wedding ceremony ritual,  a specific time the groom put bride’s neck with special mantra by a priest.  It is also said to bring good fortune and prolong their husband’s life.


It is traditionally worn by Nepali women as a sign of married status. The married women wore this ornament on the special occation, like: pooja, wedding ceremony and traditional festival like Dashain,Tihar and specially on Teej.


As a Hindu married woman, the Tilhari is a precious gift from her husband. Therefore it is very memorable for me too.
