These two objects, The Virgin Mary and Jesus, are both from the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, CDMX. While they are both from the same place, the Virgin Mary is a framed picture while Jesus is a canvas picture. These images are used as a belief of protection towards me. From an experience that my parents had when crossing the U.S border to come to Chicago, they really believed that the Virgin Mary and Jesus guided and protected them in the frightening trip. My parents deeply believe that the Virgin Mary and Jesus were the reason why they got to Chicago safe; they decided to give me the Virgin Mary’s framed picture and Jesus Canvas. I connect these important figures to my daily life: t I pray and give thanks to them morning and night to keep me safe. These images are extremely important to me because just like my parents I also believe that the Virgin Mary and Jesus were the reason why they got to Chicago safe, and that makes me feel safe as well. These two important figures not only connect to my culture but to my identity as well. The Virgin Mary and Jesus were seen to me as figures to look up to because they will always be there for one. In my identity, I believe these two figures make me who I am because of what they have done for my parents.
