The Pearl Necklace
The Pearl Necklace
When I was only 7 months old, my grandfather went out and bought a white gold necklace with a shiny pearl pendant. He had dementia and knew that he wasn’t going to be alive for much longer and so he bought the pearl necklace for me so that I'd have something to remember him by. So he gave my mother the necklace with a note and told her to give me it when I turned 15. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see him much when he was alive since he lived in another country, and I don’t have many memories of my grandfather since he died when I was so young, but he’s one of the only people I truly consider to be my family. He died when I was 6 years old. However, my mother eventually gave me the necklace along with the note my grandfather wrote to me on my 15th birthday. With this necklace, I’m able to remember him and recall the few memories I have with him.
