My grandmother Electa Mcbride was born 1955 in the United States. Her father was Cherokee Indian and her mother was African American, and they both were born in America. As a child, my grandmother spent a lot of time with her mother and her friends since they were part of the Black Panthers during the time of the Civil Rights movement. As she was growing up she was fond of her African roots so she started wearing African clothes like dashikis and looking into African culture, and becoming Afrocentric. From the the late 1960s through 1970, my grandmother was given many bracelets by her family members including her brother, sister, niece, mother, and husband. Some of the bracelets came from Africa. Even now to this day, she has those bracelets and she wears them everywhere she goes. My grandmother said before she passes away she plans to give each of the bracelets to her 5 grandchildren so that we can keep the memories and our family's history alive. I know that I am not the only person with this story. My story connects to other families because I have friends who have be given an important object that was passed down in their families that are very important to them.
