This memorial in Minneapolis, Minnesota, means a lot to me and the world. The memorial was made after the murder of Renee Good, committed by an ICE officer on January 7th, 2026. I remember earlier that week hearing how more ICE officers had been sent into Minneapolis, my city, and were detaining anyone they assumed was an illegal immigrant. Hearing this news was terrifying because I had heard of what ICE had been doing. Later on that week, I learned that an ICE agent shot a woman who went by the name of Renee Good. This was insane news for many people, including me. When I had already left school, I found out that ICE was on our school grounds and was shooting tear gas into the crowd of people, who I knew as my classmates and my teachers. I couldn’t believe the news I was hearing; it gave me chills down my spine. That day was a crucial part of my life, and I am only writing this a week after the event. I had never experienced something like this. I remember the moment I received the news. I had just gotten home and was greeted by the cozy smell of my home when I opened my phone. That was when I immediately saw the notifications from my friends' stories and news saying things like “Ice Attack at Roosevelt High School”. This moment was like an explosion that created a whole chain of events. As of now, this is still going on within the community, trying to find more ways to fight back. The memorial of Renee Good marks the day Minnesota started to fight back harder against ICE.
