The Last Souvenir
Back in 7th grade, before I moved to the United States, I had been in the Philippines all my life. This was when the pandemic just ended, and this college school just reopened its high school. I was so excited because the pandemic felt lonely and isolated from people. The first day of school, I was voted to be the president as a joke, and it turned out to be great the entire year. I told them that I’m leaving to go to the United States someday on May. I was planning on how to get a souvenir from the high school, because I met so many great people. I saw this trend when you buy a canvas and get paint on your thumb to leave a mark on the canvas. Every class did it back then in different schools when the school year was about to end as a remembrance. My last day of school, I bought a canvas and got paint, and asked my teachers to help me to get everybody to do it. I still have it in my room, and I remember the good days back home.
