A special something I have in my family is the Johnny Appleseed Song, also known as “The Lord is Good to Me”. “The Lord is Good to Me” is a song that was created in America about a man named Johnny Appleseed. My Great-Grandma Harriet began to sing this song with my Grandpa-Grandpa (great-grandfather). After my Great-Grandma Harriet and Grandpa-Grandpa divorced and Grandpa-Grandpa remarried to Nana (great-step grandmother) they, together carried on the tradition. Nana and Grandpa-Grandpa sang this song at family gatherings to symbolize coming together as a family. This song is made up of musical notes, lyrics and the heart of a happy family once all the puzzle pieces have come together. “The Lord is Good to Me” is a camp song that was written by two people named Kim Gannon and Walter Kent. I chose specifically to write about this song because it represents that a lot of my family is Christian. The parts of my family that are Christian, believe in God together and that comes out in beautiful ways such as a song. “The Lord is Good to Me” is about God and how he can bless you with wonderful things and you can rely on him.I wonder if Great-Grandma Harriet, Nana and Grandpa-Grandpa would have anything to add onto my passage, whether they would be proud I chose this song as my project for the Tenement Museum. To the ghosts of Great-Grandma Harriet, Nana and Grandpa-Grandpa, Thank you for this tradition.-M.A.S.
