When I went to Yemen in 2013 I was five years old. I had to wear a thobe because it symbolizes middle eastern identity. Before Eid everyone would go to buy thobes so on that day they can look handsome. THe thobe is a traditional piece of clothing that originated in ancient mesopotamia. It has also been an essential piece of clothing for thousands of years. It is shared by all three abrahamic religions christianity judaism and islam. Anytime there is an event or something cultural I would wear the thobe. A lot of Middle Eastern people don't wear it after coming to the United States. Ultimate this isn’t just a fancy piece of attire but also a way that I am able to represent and embrace my roots.
