Teapot
Gathering around the oak-colored table with my family, my Mother always brings up the small reddish-brown teapot, it appeared sitting quietly in the middle of the people. The teapot is not just a simple tea brewing tool with a smooth texture, but also plays a big role when having serious conversations. The teapot originated from my great grandparents who survived Japanese colonialism. It was 1921 when my great-grandmother was born, an era of high tension between the police and the people. At that time, life was not easy; people struggled with strict rules and daily hardships. It was a memorable night for my great-grandmother when one day the police raided their home, taking away valuables, fabrics, and memories that belonged to my family. Almost everything was lost—but somehow, this teapot was one of the few things that survived and remained with us.After the event, it became more precious; the teapot was not just a vessel for tea. It became a survivor, carrying the weight of loss and the fragile hope of my family, and a tool to pass down love to generations. Today, my family still uses this teapot when discussing important conversations. Pouring and drinking tea is a way that my family shows respect and connects each other; To me, drinking tea became a part of me. It provides a space for calmness and peace, also, it reminds me that even the smallest object can hold the greatest strength.
