The tamales are part of our family tradition. Most of the time we make tamales for special occasions, for example; holidays when our family gets together, and birthday parties, or just when we all go to our uncle's house or they come to our house. My mom and I are usually the ones making the tamales. However, my mom usually makes them when my sister or I want some. We would take at least an hour to make them and cook them. The history of the tamales is women were taken to battle as “army cooks” to make tortillas, stews, meats, and drinks. The tamales were used to be packed and warmed when needed. There is no record of who or when the tamale was created, however, it's been around since 1550. There are a few steps in making tamales, the first step is to soak the corn husks to remove debris then place in a bowl and fill it with cold water. The second step is to cook/make whatever you’re gonna make your tamale of. The third step is to make the dough. The fourth step is to cook a tasty filling then assemble the tamales. The final step is to steam the tamales.
