Tamales
My tradition is called Tamales. My object fits under the foodway category. Tamales are a traditional Mexican dish made with corn dough mixture (Maseca) that is filled with various meats. They are wrapped and cooked in corn husks or banana leaves. Tamales originated from Mesoamerica. The preparation of tamales spread from Indigenous culture to Mexico and then Latin America. My mom told me about this tradition. We connect to it every Christmas when the whole family gathers together to celebrate. This tradition connects to our culture/identity because that is who we are "Mexican". This tradition is important so we don't lose our culture and forget where we are from.
