Tallit

My object is a tallit. This is a very important object in my family's culture. It is a silk item that looks like a scarf. It has blue and silver stripes along the edges. Also, there is the tallit blessing embroidered in Hebrew along the neckline. It is worn during Jewish services and ceremonies. This tallit has been passed down by many generations in my family and is over 100 years old. It originally belonged to my great-great-grandpa Abraham who got it from Lviv, which is in Eastern Europe. Abraham was my grandfather's grandfather on my dad's side. My dad was given this tallit for his Bar Mitzvah when he wore it during his ceremony. That was almost 40 years ago. And, my brother wore it for his Bar Mitzvah in 2013. For my Bat Mitzvah, my grandparents bought me my own tallit which I plan to pass down to future generations. Passing traditions down through generations is important to my family.
