Stinging Nettles Tea
Stinging nettles… that’s the cure for a stomach bug to the flu, according to my grandma. My grandma, coming from Bulgaria would collect wild stinging nettles near wintertime to make soup, and more importantly TEA! After coming from Bulgaria to live with us, she would buy stinging nettles to make us tea. Coughing in bed she would waddle over with a mug of tea, honey, and lemon put inside it. She would say “pi-e babo, pi-e” (Pee- e) which means drink grandma drink. She would keep saying that until you took a sip. The oddly good tasting tea would soothe the back of your throat and make you feel tired as you drank it early in the morning. This story makes me feel like I have a special/ unique story because most people don’t have grandmas that will bring them stinging nettle tea early in the morning.
