Basically I'm Irish American

My ex girlfriend got me this shirt because I'm Irish. For the life of me I can't find a family heirloom or recipe or anything physical enough for a picture. I don't even have a family picture(we're not that close). All I really have is a story my grandfather told me. He said our great great great + grandfather Patrick Hogan came to New York during the potato famine, somewhere down the line my family must have settled in Illinois as that is where I grew up. To this day I have no idea how accurate this likely handed down for decades story is, however I believe more of it than I don't because I know a ton of people fled Ireland during the famine and a ton of those people came to America. Ironically enough, for a couple years now I have wanted to flee back to Ireland given what I consider the terrifying direction that the United States has gone in for the past ten years, but they probably wouldn't take me. Wouldn't it be ironic if I fled back to the same place my great great great grandfather tried so hard to escape from? Wouldn't it be ironic if in 100+ years my great great grandkids shared a nearly identical story to mine of their American roots in an Irish classroom about immigration?
