Sleep away Camp Memorbilia
For my story, I chose a plaque I made on the last night of sleepaway camp. The majority of my summers I would spend in New Hampshire. Being away from home for 7 weeks as a child is either a worst nightmare or a dream come true. For me, sleepaway camp was my home. Three summers ago was my super summer, the last summer I could be a camper. After growing up with the same group of 6 girls, they became my family. I will forever miss the place where I truly felt carefree. This picture shows the cabin plaque I made with my bunk mates on the last night of camp. Writing down inside jokes and a farewell message to younger campers, we relieved those first moments stepping onto campgrounds when we were just little children. Being away from my home and family for such a long time has instilled a sense of independence. Although I was under the supervision of adults, I was given responsibility. Whether I was playing with the Pio’s: the youngest children on camp, or leading my team in color wars, I knew who I needed to be to thrive in the environment fully. Camp is a place where I feel I truly belong. Being in a state where I know I am where I am meant to be only enhances my ability to thrive and bring out all of the different skills I have to offer.
