Silver and Gold Rings
The person i interviewed was my step-dad Leandro(Leo). He is from Brazil; the objects he chose to bring with him were two rings that are silver and gold that his son and daughter bought for him awhile before he came to New York. One of the rings has a design that includes another ring around it. The second one is a skinny ring with golden stitches around the edge. My step-dad was going through something hard and wanted to turn over a new leaf. He left in 2006 which means he has been in New York for 10 years. He was pulled here by my mom and me. These objects are important to him because his two children gave these rings to him. They relate to Brazil’s festiveness and culture. I believe that it is important for people to learn about immigrants and their experiences because there might have been an event that affected people now and their ways of living. The rings remind him of his happiness. These objects connect to being American because many Americans use jewelry to get engaged or marry someone they love and want to be with for a long time.
