My object is a Shinai. It is from Japan. It is used for a martial art called kendo. My dad used it and it is made out of bamboo and cloth. It was originally used to practice sword fighting. I chose it because my dad practiced kendo. I want to do kendo just like my dad. It teaches me about my culture because kendo is a traditional Japanese sport. It is connected to my dad and he immigrated to the United States in 1993.
The questions I have for my dad is how old was the first shinai? Also how did he get into martial arts.
