Scrapbook
My childhood best friend, Jada, made a scrapbook for me when I moved away in 5th grade. Between the colorful pages, photos of us, and handwritten letters are memories that mean everything to me and made me who I am today. Growing up, our families were incredibly close and we did everything together. Our lives were always intertwined, not only throughout the little moments, like going strawberry picking, ballet classes, and sunday school, but through harsher struggles like the loss of her younger brother. When I moved from Baltimore to Boston, the distance between our houses grew from a 5 minute walk to a 12 hour drive. At the time, living in a new place with people I didn’t know was terrifying, and continuing to have my best friend despite the distance made it better. I made new friends and a life for myself here, but our FaceTime movie nights and looking through the scrapbook never stopped. Having someone alongside me who understood me so well was the best blessing I could have asked for, and it’s made me someone who values friendship strongly. Continuing to browse the pages from time to time and look back on memories is an amazing way to reminisce on my life and remember people that I don’t see every day.
