Christmas is a magical time, and in our family, it is celebrated from the day after Thanksgiving up until Christmas Day. It is a time for family traditions, starting with the trimming of our fresh cut tree, to the baking of Santa’s special cookies. On Christmas Eve, we take out my Great- Grandmother's special Christmas Cookie recipe and magically transform flour, butter, sugar, etc. Into a chewy treat that begs to be iced after it pops out of the oven. These Cookies are only made on Christmas Eve and precede our last minute shopping, our final preparations for Christmas dinner, and that one gift we are allowed to open before going to bed. After we open our gift, we put out a plate of cookies and a glass of milk for Santa. Nanny would say that she was an Irish- Immigrant that came to America during the depression because there wasn’t much money, Christmas wasn’t about gifts from Santa but about the time spent with family going to church, baking, dinner, and friends exchanging gifts with one another, It’s about taking the simple things in life into magical memories.
