A prayer mat in Islam
A prayer mat in Islam

For my object I chose a praying mat. When my parents first migrated to Chicago, they were very religious and still are. They gave me a praying mat when I was young and this was the beginning to my religious journey. I have learned a lot about Islam and about our prophet Mohammed pbuh (peace be upon him). There are different ways to follow the words of my prophet, pbuh. In my family we use the tradition of Sunnah. Sunnah means, the way of the prophet and to live as he did. With this prayer mat we pray about 5 times a day starting at sunrise. The prayers are -dhuhr-asr-maghrib-isha. The mat is usually made from fur and cotton.  The name we use when we pray is called sajjad at aṣ-ṣalat. This object came from Morocco. Specifically the city Sefrou. This is very valuable to Muslims as they need this in order to pray salat prayer.
