When my Grandmother was going to America, she also had her son, Ernesto, and her daughter, Carol with her. There was a war going on during 1979, and she was trying to find a place to stay. But her son, Ernesto, was extremely ill. Since her son was very young, about only a few months old, there wasn't a lot they could do. Medical supplies were scarce, and later that day, he died. She couldn't handle the loss of her baby. My aunt was only 3 when her brother died. After that, they found a place to stay in America. After settling down, over the years she had 3 more children. My second aunt, Yoly, My third aunt, Elba, and my mother, Alyson. After I learned about this event that happened to my Grandmother, I wore a pair of earrings and a necklace of hers to cherish her gift, and to honor the fact that she had to go through that. This year, my uncle, Ernesto, would've been 47.
