This is the gold ring passed down.

Bryson Corbett My grandmother was the first member of my mother’s family to ever reach the United States. Born and raised in Germany, as was almost all her ancestors, moving to America at 20 years old was a huge risk. Not only was she so young but she had to start over in a new country and adapt to a new culture. With this influential life change, she needed a way to connect to her roots. This is where the ring comes in. My great grandmother, the first born in her family, was given a male wedding band. This ring was for whomever she married. The ring does not only represent family lineage but has grown to even more. It reminds anyone in the U.S. who wears it or passes it on to remember where they came from. I feel this story is important to tell so that more people get a sense of how diverse our country is and so there is more cultural respect. As the second born child in my family, I will not be able to take part in the ring passing but you never know. Maybe I will get married first and the ring will be passed to me.
