The ring

My mom has always been extremely available for me, and has always told me stories about her life. I enjoy learning about her and her experiences because it always seems so surreal and fictional. She told me about her first husband, he lived in the Netherlands and she loved to be there. She moved to the Netherlands after graduating in Colombia. She ended up escaping and moved to the US. But she kept the ring her mom got her for that wedding. Her then husband did not get her one so her mom stepped up and got one for her. She passed this ring onto me and now I wear it every day to remind myself of my mom and my Abuela. When my mom was battling cancer, it meant even more, and that ring was able to signify my moms strength and persistence. I held the utmost confidence in her and I was right to do so. After a tough battle, she was able to beat the cancer, and that ring continues to be what I hold onto when I need reassurance. Throughout my highschool years I struggled a lot in school, but that ring was the constant reminder of the support I have in my life and the strength of the women in my family. I continue to work hard to make them proud of me and live up to their legacies.
