Rice noodle roll
Rice noodle rolls, known as "肠粉" (cháng fěn) in Chinese, belong to the foodways category. These delectable rolls are crafted from thin, wide noodles made with rice flour. They are steamed to perfection and then filled with ingredients like shrimp, beef, or vegetables. Rice noodle rolls are a popular choice for breakfast or brunch. They originated from Luozhou (now Luoding City, Guangdong) during the Tang Dynasty, adding a touch of historical significance to their culinary appeal. In my own journey with rice noodle rolls, I don't remember the first time I ate rice noodle rolls. However, during my elementary school years, I would eat a plate of rice noodle rolls with a delicious sauce every morning before heading to school. This simple food was intertwined with my identity and culture, reminding me of the joy and simplicity of my childhood. After I came to America. When I still see this food in Chinatown or anywhere else in the United States. I would go in and try it all to see if it had a familiar taste. That delicious taste.
