Rice wasn't passed down but every Asian family eats it. Both sides,my Mexican and Asian side has their own version of rice and each side makes it different.They both have the same objective though which is too feed everyone and it's always successful everytime we eat. Rice is all made different depending on the culture it is made in.White rice is white because it is altered too expunge germs so it's good to eat.Rice has been in my generations for years doesn't matter which side it is both eat rice.My Asian side usually eats white rice that goes with anything and my Mexican side eats rice that is made with tomato sauce and it can also go with everything as well.Doesn't matter the culture everyone eats rice to get filled up.
