Revival Time With Grandma
Revival Time With Grandma is my story. It is meant to capture a cultural essence that is distinct to southern Black life. Semi autobiographical of my life and so very poignant, its scenes are intentionally specific, yet characteristic of the Black Southern tradition like church, food, family, generational stories. All in preparation for church revival. It is a kind of every person tale seen through the eyes of a young Black girl named Judy (me) who returns every summer to the Nelson County Virginia community where her parents grew up. This is my great migration story. It speaks of my Black family that fostered and maintained our connection to family, food, religion, social mores and southern roots. The relationship that I a soon-to-be ten year
old had with my Grandma Christine is a generational gift. Revival Time With Grandma is important because
of what it can help us remember.
