The red packet. In the red packet, there’s money and the amount inside depends on who you’re giving it to and who’s receiving it. It also has many shapes, sizes, decorations, etc. The red packet isn't just given on a random day, they give it to you on special days. Such as weddings, birthdays, Chinese New Year, etc. The red packet isn’t just red because they chose it randomly, there’s a story behind it. Though there are many versions about the origins of the red packet but, this story is something I’ve heard during my childhood so there’s really not a “real” version of it. So the story starts off in a village and there’s this dragon who brings bad luck to this village and a lot of people died. One day, someone hung something red outside of their house and the dragon started to stay away from the area. Soon, everyone started noticing that it was afraid of the color red. And so everyone in the town put lots of light and red to ward off the dragon and it worked! The end. So in short, the red color of the packet symbolizes good luck and is a symbol to ward off evil spirits.
