This object called the Red envelope comes from China and came from Chinese culture during the Sung Dynasty. When It was Chinese New Year and I was around the ages 4 to 7 years old my parents came to my door and gave me two Red envelopes with 20 dollars in both, on the back of the envelopes would say from Mom and Dad. After receiving these Red envelopes I was very curious. This is when they told me more about their culture and what Red envelopes represented. What I have learned about Red envelopes is you should never open the envelopes in front of the person that had given you it because it would give you bad luck. You could also get bad luck by taking someone else’s money in their Red envelope. Chinese New Year is celebrated for about 15-16 days in honor of gods and ancestors at the beginning or the end of each year. During this time Red envelopes are given to children to wish them a better year. The Red envelopes are important to me because they represent good luck for the new year ahead and can also represent my parents' love. Having a better connection to a person would ensure finding more money in an envelope. This object also represents my family's religion and my identity as an Asian.
