Red Envelope
As a first generation American and a child of immigrants, I hold my native, Chinese culture close to my heart. Growing up, I have had the privilege to learn about my Chinese heritage through my family. A symbol of the Chinese culture is a red envelope. A red envelope (containing money) is generally given by elders to the younger generation during Chinese New Year and other happy festivities, such as, weddings and birthdays. Red envelopes can come in many sizes and range in design. Beyond just getting money on special occasions, this object ties me to deeper roots. The older I get, the more I realize that I cannot lose sight or forget where I came from since my family has worked so hard to get to where we are today.
