Ramadan
The tradition I brought with me to New York is Ramadan. Ramadan is an important month for any Muslim and in this month we read the Quran and pray at tariw and fast. When I was a kid I learned how to fast and it was very hard to fast. One day in Ramdan I was eating and my grandfather saw me eating and he told me, “why are you eating and everybody else is fasting? You are supposed to be fasting.” I told him it’s very hard to be fasting for more than 10 hours. He said, “if you try right now, it will be easy for you when you grow up.” And he said if you fast god will help in your life and after that moment I tried every day. It was a little bit hard and after Ramadan my grandfather gave me a PS 2 and I was very happy. After 2 months my grandfather died and I was very sad. When Ramadan comes I always remember my grandfather and how he helped me.
