Raggedy Ann and Andy
The artifact that I brought in is Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. They both have red hair with a dress and pants on. Their noses are red and shaped as a triangle. Johnny Gruelle is the founder of these dolls. Raggedy Ann and Andy started out as a children’s book and started making the toys shortly after WW1 ended. This artifact has changed a bit over time because now the dolls they make have different clothes or hair. The artifact also got older and ripped a bit. The Raggedy Ann doll was modeled after the creator's daughter, who ended up dying in result of an infected vaccination. These Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls were my great great aunts. They were given to my great great aunt by my great aunt. She gave them to give her right before she left on her trip to Africa which was sometime before 1973. My great aunt who had gifted those dolls to my great great aunt, ended up dying because she didn’t get the correct vaccinations before her trip. These dolls were then passed down to my mom.
