My beautiful quilt.
Story pending

My grandmother has been making quilts for years and each one of them is unique and deeply precious. My grandmother is a strong and independent woman who expresses herself by the beauty in her quilts. Throughout her life, she has faced hardships and overcame them with kind tenacity. Each of her quilts paints a different picture and represents an event or feeling that is significant to her life. In my family, once the grandchildren reach a certain age, heirlooms are passed down as a way to express love and tradition. Last year, before my grandfather passed away, he told my grandmother to give each grandchild a quilt. He wanted her quilts to live on and be a representation of the beautiful life they lived, and she continues to live. The quilt I was given was made in 1998. It has a beautiful black base with a burnt yellow and rose red floral pattern. My favorite color is dark rose red and my favorite pattern is floral. My identity is represented in this quilt as is my grandmother’s. This quilt and the others my cousins received will continue to bring my family together as we get older and pass down the quilts to our children. I am who I am today because of my family and this quilt helps to connect me to my grandparents.
