Pupusas
Pupusas is the traditional food from my home country El Salvador. This dish is made with flour, cheese and beans but depending on what part of El Salvador you come from, there could be different flavors. My grandma's hands were weathered but strong, shaped by years of nurturing our family with her cooking; Watching her shape each pupusa was like witnessing an art form passed down through generations. She pressed the masa (flour) into perfect circles and stuffed it with care. She told us stories of her childhood, of a time when life was simpler, that pupusas was a dish to eat and enjoy with family and friends; she always uses to said “mi hija siempre fíjate con quien te sientas en la mesa, no se conoce a los amigos o enemigos”( My daughter always pay attention to who you sit at the table, you don’t know who your friends are or who your enemies are). For me, Pupusas are not just food; they represent my culture, my heritage, my connection to my roots, and the love of my grandma. Each bite carries the flavors of El Salvador and the warmth of my family. Even now when I make pupusas far from home, I can still hear her voice, guidending me throughout the process, reminding me of the strength and love that runs in my family.
