The punta is originally a fertility dance that has its origins in West Africa, and is currently danced at national festivals and festivities. The Garifuna people (/ˌɡɑːriːˈfuːnə/ GAR-ee-FOO-nə or Spanish pronunciation: [ɡa'ɾifuna]; pl. Garínagu in Garifuna) are a people of mixed African and free Amerindian ancestry who originated on the Caribbean island of San Vicente and They speak Garifuna, an Arawak language and Vincentian Creole. That cultural dance is the most famous and the Garifuna have fun and enjoy the punta dance.
