My family and I are Puerto Rican. We always make a lot of Puerto Rican/hispanic foods during holidays and special occasions. Sometimes we also include foods that aren't Puerto Rican. The types of foods we cook are arroz con gandules which is made from Puerto Rican rice and pigeon peas, pernil is pork shoulder, jamon is ham and my family puts pineapple but that is optional, sometimes we have stuffing, turkey, lasagna, baked mac and cheese, and pasteles. We also have potato salad and macaroni salad. We cook these foods on Christmas eve, Thanksgiving, birthdays, etc. I was introduced to these foods by my family on both sides but mainly my grandparents on my mom's side. This is important to me because it expresses my culture and also represents my identity of being a proud Puerto Rican.
