I've been with my boyfriend for four years now. We are a interracial couple; I am a Irish and Catholic while my boyfriend is Bengali and Muslim. Through these four years, we have face many hardships when it came to our religions, people yelling racial slurs at us, and our families being two different cultures. For awhile I didn't think we were going to make it, because our lifestyles were so different. But we wanted to prove the statistics wrong, and we kept fighting for our relationship and we are still together to this day. A year ago my boyfriend got me a promise ring, to symbolize that no matter where life takes us, or how hard it is to fuse two different cultures, we will stand strong together. I wear it everyday, and some people ask me if I'm engaged or married, and I always reply "No but in a committed relationship". I don't want the color of our skin to define how we live our love life. And that ring symbolizes just that.
