Praying Angel
This object was given to my household by my grandmother from Colorado. I am able to connect to this praying angel because at nights I would kneel at the edge of my bed and pray wearing a nightgown similar to the statue. I was able to make a personal connection with the object because it reminded me of myself. The angel shared a similar skin complexion as me. Many children would believe that the angel was them at times. This object is able to connect to my culture because typically there are many statues like this in the household of the grandmother. This object is important because it was passed down from generations to generations; house from house. This sculpture is made of oxy-lite and poly-stone to form the base of the sculpture material. This is just ornament of the african american culture that watches over the family. Generally, no one told the other family members about the object just appeared in the living room. This item is important to me because it was given and passed on from generations starting with my grandmother. This object reveals that this sculpture is also important to her due to her treasuring it and passing it one. Obviously, if an object is passed on from my grandmother it has much value. This connection is within many African American cultural households, and connects to many people. I am not quite sure where this object originated from nor anyone else in my household.
