My dad left Senegal and came to America for a better life. Before leaving, his father gave a mat he received from his father. Muslims use the mat to pray. It comes from Muslim countries such as Africa, Asia or Turkey. My father told me about a special mat used by my grandfather. On special occasions like Eid I carry it and follow my father. We both go to the Mosque, sit on the mat, and pray. As a muslim a mat is an important object because I need it to pray. Praying is one of the most important pillars of Islam which is part of my identity.  In the future, I hope to pass it on my son.
