Prayer mat
My American identity shows that I am religious and there was a time where I wanted to express my religious identity and expressed it with the use of my prayer mat that I used to pray to God. This event took place when I was in middle school during winter and I felt as I wasn't being close enough to God and I wanted to change that I become even closer to God so with the prayer mat that I had and still have I got up in midnight and prayed to God which afterwards I felt a relief in the emotions I felt that night. In that moment I went to go to the Mosque that night for the Fajr prayer (a prayer before sunrise) and the walk there was the most peaceful I've felt. It was even more peaceful when I was in the mosque. That moment now makes me think of all the people suffering in Palestine that want to get close to but can't and shows to me how I have no idea how young and older Muslims feel in Palestine and that I should be as grateful as I can be because I am in America and born in America safe while they're losing their loved ones everyday.
