This is my dad and I making the beans.

The object that I chose that was the best fit for the project is a family recipe of Portuguse beans. The recipe consists of a lot of different meats and spices that were easy to find in the time of the Great Depression the meats mainly come from pig. The recipe was made in the time of the great depression when my dad's family was so poor that they had to find new ways of cooking. They came to California right away from Portugal, to Fresno. They lived there for a while in fact some of the family still lives there.  That's the time that the recipe started. The first person in my life to tell me about it was my dad and my grandmother when she made it for me for the first time a long time ago.
The recipe is not really connected to anything that much except when extended family come to visit or sometimes on Christmas we make it. But it is mostly connected to when my grandparents come to visit. The beans connect to my family in a lot of ways, the main one being the fact that it is a Portuguese recipe and so is my dad's side of the family. Since my family all migrated together to Fresno they all make the beans together.  However it allows me to remember where my dad's side of the family has come from and where they started from.
